CRYING OUT LOUD AND WEEPING
"Crying out loud and weeping are great resources..." ~ Rumi
There are I suppose in all our lives many reasons to be happy; and many reasons to be sad. As therapists, we need to be in touch with these and all our feelings to be truthful internally and to have the greatest sphere of compassion for ourselves, our clients, friends, family and this world. That’s not easy. And we endeavor to take action that helps address what the philosopher Unamuno called “the tragic sense of life.” Perhaps there is no greater work. Yet even as I say this I find my sadness and depression gets transformed into a special kind of tenderness. Thus… the healing power of the blues.
All this reminds me what an honest and incredible challenge is the Bodhisattva vow:
"For as long as space endures
And for as long as living beings remain,
Until then may I, too, abide
To dispel the misery of the world."
~ Shantideva
