COSTA RICA REFLECTIONS AND PHOTOS
My time visiting and teaching Costa Rica this June was again remarkable (this was the sixth time I’ve taught at the Costa Rica School of Massage in Samara). Part of it is the ocean setting and the open-air classroom. But mostly it is the interface and meeting of all of us in the group. I say to the students I’ve just been lost in this forest longer than you. So we are finding our way through together. Thus, as long as they are up to it, the workshop becomes almost a living ritual of exploration and connection.
I’d anticipated that, because the group was smaller than I usually teach, there would be a loss of energy to work with. Absolutely not! Over the first few days the group bonded and activated so strongly that saying we were one – in addition to being individuals – was a visceral experience for all including me, in my teacher role. A great class is like a whole body moving with its parts in coordination.
Krishnatmurti said if six people could totally cooperate, the world would be instantly transformed. That’s stuck with me and, for every great class, each of our worlds is indeed transformed. What a grace it is that pretty much each class of Deep Massage and Zero Balancing becomes an experience of oneness. The symphony of being that accompanies great classes is a template and stimulus toward a society in which we honor the transcendent value of connecting.
